History

SOC Invasion and the Rise of Ricar (7521 RH - 7541 RH)

During the SOC invasion of 7521 RH, the Lords of Giondo and Nider fled, while the Lord of Ricar remained and fought, ultimately assuming the throne. While Giondo and Nider claimed they fled to protect the royal lineage, the Lord of Ricar and his supporters argued that true leaders do not flee, emphasizing courage over bloodline.

By 7541 RH, the war had ended, but Giondo’s diplomatic nature and history of avoiding conflict led to lingering perceptions of weakness, making them a target for criticism. This divide deepened as Ricar and its regional companies pushed for increased militarization, while Giondo resisted these efforts. Most other lords sided with Ricar on the issue, believing that military strength was necessary to protect the nation.

Darmin and Kaydo situation (7634 RH - 7635 RH)

Darmin: The Power-Hungry Prince

Darmin was the eldest of the three princes and, at one point, was expected to succeed Polic. However, he was ambitious to a fault and developed a ruthless reputation in the royal court. His behavior led to serious concerns about his fitness to rule.

Reasons for Removal: He mistreated the workers to borderline slave like conditions. He claimed he was allowed to because he was above the law. Even though he was right, he still needed to be an example. Darmin controlled royal landholdings and allegedly forced workers into unfair labor conditions, treating them as disposable resources rather than citizens. A few workers died working under Darmin, this made Polic very angry. When reports of his exploitative practices reached King Polic, an internal investigation was conducted, revealing a pattern of abusive treatment and extortion. The public outcry from nobles and merchants pressured Polic to act.

Darmin publicly criticized Polic and the royal council, stating that they were too soft on the opposition. He attempted to take direct control over tax collection, which overstepped his authority as a prince. Darmin reportedly had ties with certain private military groups in Ricar and Dangar. Some claimed he was planning to use these militias to “secure his rule” once he became king. This raised suspicions that he might undermine the monarchy’s stability by turning it into a personal military state. The size of this militia however was never confirmed but threat was enough to have Darmin removed from the royal house. In 7634 RH, King Polic and the council stripped Darmin of all royal titles and exiled him from the royal court. He was forced to flee to Atregona but he was stripped of his personal belongings and live as an everyday person. Rumors persisted that Darmin held a grudge and attempted to build power from the island of Hora in Atregona, but he never openly challenged Nayson once he became king.

Kaydo: The Carefree and Unfit Prince

Unlike Darmin, Kaydo was not power-hungry but was deemed too irresponsible and immature to handle royal duties.

Reasons for Removal: He was irresponsible and showed reckless behavior. Kaydo was known for spending lavishly, throwing extravagant parties and festivals using state funds. He avoided council meetings and had no interest in state affairs. Despite being younger, he had a notorious reputation for excessive drinking and gambling. He also had multiple embarrassing incidents involving Kaydo damaged the royal family’s reputation. In one infamous case, Kaydo got into a drunken brawl with a noble from Crontil, nearly causing a diplomatic incident. The press exploited his misbehavior, which weakened public trust in the royal family. King Polic gave Kaydo multiple chances to prove himself, including sending him on diplomatic missions. However, Kaydo failed to take these responsibilities seriously, often skipping meetings and disrespecting foreign dignitaries.

In 7635 RH, Kaydo was officially removed from the line of succession. Unlike Darmin, he was not exiled but was forced to leave the royal court and live privately. Kaydo retreated to a private estate, where he reportedly continued his carefree lifestyle. However after a few years, his money ran out. He asked for money from his father and brother but he was paid in direct products instead to keep him from gambling and misusing state money.

Nayson was professional since the age of twelve, getting ready for royal duties. He was always Polic’s favorite and this meant that Polic had an easier time removing both his brothers from royal duties. The actions of the two princes was used by Ricar to make Giondo look bad but however, this didn’t stick because both of them were quickly removed and Nayson had a good approval rating by the time he became king.

Nestorian Succession Crisis (7635 RH - Present)

The Nestorian Succession Crisis was an ongoing political struggle regarding the future of the Nestorian monarchy. The conflict emerged from longstanding tensions between the Giondo-Nider royal house and the Ricar opposition, reaching its peak in 7668 RH when the Lord of Ricar challenged the legitimacy of Prince Merco’s succession.

Tensions and the Anibar Civil War (7635 RH - 7668 RH)

In 7635 RH, despite Ricar’s growing influence, the tradition of electing a Lord of Giondo as King continued, leading to Nayson’s ascension. This decision deeply frustrated the Lord of Ricar, who warned that diplomacy alone would not ensure Nestor’s security.

By 7664 RH, the Anibar Civil War erupted, with Stolvic Orderist Commonwealth (SOC) funding local rebels. The Lord of Ricar blamed Giondo for the escalation, arguing that their reluctance to build a strong military had left Nestor vulnerable to external influence. This further solidified opposition support, with several lords aligning with Ricar.

By 7668 RH, the Lord of Ricar had nearly enough votes to take the throne. However, King Nayson foreseeing the threat, called an early vote to install his son, Prince Merco, as the next king.

At the time of the vote, Prince Merco was only 16 years old, while the minimum age for election was 18. Despite this, Merco won by just one vote. The Lord of Ricar immediately challenged the outcome, arguing that Giondo had broken the rules and that, as the second-highest vote-getter, he should become king instead.

This marked the beginning of the Succession Crisis. The Lord of Ricar launched a smear campaign against Merco, his siblings, and the royal family, aiming to delegitimize their claim. By 7686 RH, parliament approved a re-vote, set for 7687 RH.

The Ricarian smear campaign (7682 RH - 7687 RH)

Ricar heavily emphasized that Prince Merco was only 16 at the time of the vote, which was against the legal age requirement of 18. However, this rule is something that is not always upheld in past because when the monarch is in trouble this was legal. However, the king of Giondo 200 years ago implemented this rule. His campaign also argued that this proved Giondo manipulated the system, making it seem like the election was rigged. By starting an election before the voting lords knew what was going on seemed wrong, even though not technically illegal, it does show that the Merco’s likely wouldn’t be chosen if the lords had time to think. Some fake documents or leaked correspondences have surfaced, suggesting that King Polic pushed the vote early on purpose, fueling public distrust. However, King Polic and Nayson deny these accusations.

Ricar’s faction launched attacks on Merco’s brother and sister, spreading rumors of irresponsibility, corruption, or moral failings to discredit the whole family. However the evidence used by lord of Ricar were vague. He did mention illegal activities but nothing severe that would force a removal. He exposed every single small mistake he made, often making it worse then it actually. The lord of Ricar however knew that this could backfire and did not fabricate much or any fake news.

Merco’s brother Torian was accused of engaging in shady business dealings, possibly benefiting from royal connections. He used his royal position and wealth to buy out property and companies. He also used his wealth to improve this reputation, the lord of Ricar claimed, reputation is earned, not bought.

Merco’s oldest sister Verina was painted as overly sheltered, suggesting she was out of touch with common citizens. She was seen in expensive dresses and seen as spending a lot of money for herself.

Lastly, Anissa was so distant from the royal work because she ran away into the royal garden because she didn’t want to stand her ground. She wanted nothing to do with royal duties because she was insecure. That’s no mindset of a queen, claimed the lord of Ricar. On top of that, she seemed a little to liberal with her clothing style, had no idea how to make money or how to stand her ground. Too demure for her own good. However, nothing scandalous was found, and Terrifian’s popularity made her even harder to attack.

Giondo’s History of ‘Cowardice

The old claim that Giondo fled during the SOC War resurfaced, with pamphlets, speeches, and public statements reinforcing the idea that Giondo never fought for Nestor. Comparisons were made between Prince Merco and past rulers, suggesting that if Giondo keeps leading, Nestor will remain weak.

Ricar’s supporters infiltrated newspapers, political circles, and public discourse, spreading subtle rumors that the Giondo-Nider house was out of touch. Some lords were paid off to support negative press, influencing public perception before the re-vote.

Nayson's last effort and response (7687 RH)

However, just before the vote, Nayson introduced Princess Anissa and her new husband, Terrifian, as alternative candidates. Terrifian was widely loved by the people, and his popularity threatened to crush Ricar in a direct vote. This strategic move stalled the opposition's momentum, preventing Ricar from securing the throne. Since Terrifian was loved by the people, this shattered Ricar’s narrative that the monarchy was out of touch. Prince Merco and his family took part in public events to show they were active, competent, and engaged with the people. This helped counteract the idea that they were weak or unfit to rule.

The royal court challenged the claims against Merco, arguing that he won fairly and was being unfairly targeted. Some lords who were influenced by Ricar were exposed, hurting the opposition’s credibility. The royal family framed the crisis as a threat to stability, warning that if Ricar took over, Nestor could fall into internal conflict. This made some undecided lords hesitant to support a drastic shift in power.

With the introduction of Anissa and Terrifian, this gave the lords a sense of a “neutral” vote because even though she is part of the house of Giondo, she is mostly doing her own thing with her friends and husband. Things caused a many lords to see Terrifian to be the best option for the future rule of Nestor. Even though he wouldn’t be king, with Anissa little experience in rule, he would do a lot of the heavy lifting. Also, Anissa and Terrifian took a lot strategic advice from Tonk who had been the head of the strategy department of the national military for six years now and he had earned a lot of respect over the years. And so in early 7688, a few weeks after the passing of Elder King Polic, the lords voted with 6/13 going to Anissa, four votes for Ricar and three votes going to Merco.
