Giondo (city), is the capital city of Nestor in the state with the same name Giondo. With a population of 725 thousand people making it (only) the 12th biggest city in the nation. When someone mentions "Giondo" they refer to the city not the state. Mulcator is the biggest city of the state but Giondo hold the Royal Corps and the Nestorian Government.

Etymology

The name Giondo comes from the Nestorian word for guild "Giod". The region was historically the place with a lot of craftsman due to the city being a place of innovation in the medieval times. "Giondo" means city of the guild refering to old crafters of the city.

History

Giondo was founded in around 3500 RH but the city stayed rather small for a long time. The city traded wood crafts and they are early creators of glass jewelry. In thr 6200s Giondo was conconqured by the Erinic Empire and the glassblowers of Giondo adapted by creating soulstones for the Erecund religion. Giondo was one of the few cities that kept some of its autonomy during the Erinic occupation causing old Nestoric traditions to be perserved. King Baragozo IV of Giondo revolted againt the the Erinic Empire in 4139 RH starting the complete destruction of the Erinic Empire.

After the fall of the Erinc Empire, Giondo was caught between the crossfire of many wars. The city had been captured by lords from Rinnar and Nider but it has never lasted for long. Giondo started construction on the great Giondo Wall 6600s RH. After the wall was build, the city was never taken by another lords giving the city the nickname "the city peace" even though the city was involved in many wars. This stability within the walls attracted scholars from all over the island including diplomats. Local lords started using the city as a place to discuss peace treaties and alliances which helped the city to become a mayor diplomatic center of the region. Over time, Giondo used its diplomatic power to start uniting the region and this really started to take off in 6809 RH with the first unification, in 7367 the Kingdom of Giondo split into two states with Rinnar and Giondo gaining extra autonomy in order to preserve order. Giondo stayed the capital of this new state because the diplomatic sector had grown a lot in power by this point.

Anarchy Sector in Giondo

During the Wolgos and Häverist wars, Giondo worked a lot to start the United Herdom Alliance to protect the island from outside invaders. It worked against the Wolgos but not the Häverists, who took over the entire island removing the king and lords from power, and killing off many lords. The grand Giondo wall stood no chance against the modern weapons of the Häverist invaders. The population was cut off from vital foods in order to produce food more effectively according to the Häverists. This caused a famine in Giondo 7524 RH killing many thousands and weakened thousands more in a manner of months. The Häverists allowed the production of a minimal amount of these foods, mostly in the from of berries and special eggs. The population was no longer in famine but still weakened lowering the rate of resistance however the resistance starting growing the berries in secret anyway bringing the soldiers of the resistance to their former glory and they liberated the first sections of the city in 7535 RH. Berry production took off in this part of the city creating the Garden of Resistance. Häverists also tried using the berries for their own soldiers in order to improve their own soldiers but it had no effect on them. The city was fully liberated in 7356 RH and the king was restored who commanded the resistance himself together with his resistance veterans.

After the Häverist revolution, the king, the diplomats and surviving lords came together to talk about uniting the island for defense and diplomacy in order to prevent another island wide war. The Giondo dilpmatic district was reorganized into the Royal District but due to the Häverists, many lords were killed and many other lord-based functions got destroyed. This led the Royal District to declare a minimal government and return the power to the people in its truest form. Tribes and tribal communities started to take over government roles on a local level. This caused the city to be more chaotic than before but stability, unity and the economy improved. Today the city has a distinct three times layout, the historic sector, the ordered Häverist sector and the bordline anarchy which has started to consume the Häverist sector. The declaration of minimal government was also to counter the Häverist/orderism influence, a return to the root and out of spite of Häverists.

Demographics

Giondo was the biggest city on the island for hundreds of years but the rate of growth has been low placing at a current 12th place in the nation. The city is still growing but not as fast as other cities like Ricar of Cobin. The population of the city has been growing at about 3% in the last few decades but growth before the Häverist invasion was very low dropping to less 1% per year. The 500.000 milestone was reached in 7678 and one million is predidacted to be reached in 7701. The population growth is mainly due to overall population growth of the nation and not through inclusion of former separate settlements. Many tribes from the countryside migrated to the city, his was accelerated by the Häverists but the rate has been stable ever since.

The population pyramid of Giondo is slightly different with a larger older population compared to other large cities. This is because Giondo hold the government and a lot of history, younger people move to Ricar, Cobin or Unazir. The nation ranks often in the top five on many metrics in the nation but not in size.

Giondo has 1.2% of the national population and 1.4% of the national GDP. This makes Giondo a small city in the nation and this is because there is not one mayor city in Nestor. However, it does form a part of national core around the Sularic Bay. The bay area contains cities like: Ricar, Barin, Sacun, Cobin, Nogar, Mulcator, Giondo and Elkinton holding 8.4 million people in the cities alone, 20.3 million people overall and 35,3% of the national GDP.

The city contains a lot of Ertilans (79%) and sizable amount of Muncs (15%) but Crontils (1%) and Anibles (1%) are at a much lower rate, the remaining 4% is of foreigners. However, the Crontil and Anible rates of are higher than in other bay cities because it houses the military and the parliament of the nation. The main language that is spoken is Nestorian which is often accompanied by Nestorian sign language. The population's main religion is Erecund (Nestorian branch) and the second biggest group is non-religious. But all minority religions can be found here, including Orkanan and more indigenous religions.
