Halland, officially the Royal Commonwealth of Halland, is a country in Anaria composed of the Union of Rosland and Naedraland.
Etymology and demonyms
Halland takes its name from Hallingrland in old Hallish, which translates to ' land of the cliffs' or 'land behind the rocks'. Today, Hallinger derives from the same name and refers to Hallands southern peninsula, known for its white limestone and chalk cliffs.
Two demonyms are popularly used for Halland, Hallish and Hallisian, with Hallish being considered the proper demonym.
It is considered rude to call someone from Naedraland Hallish or Hallisian. The people from this kingdom identify themselves as Untfinzen, which in Hallish is Untfins or Unfins. For example, a city in Naedraland is called an untfinnish city rather than a Hallish city.
History
From 5100, missionaries and settlers from the Orkanan Realm of Stoldavia founded several colonies along the northern coast of Thultannia. By 5600RH, the northern part of the region, mainly coinciding with The Naedraland, was part of the realm. The southern half encompassed two dependencies: Hallingr and Ellingr. Fyrirhugun Orkanan had replaced Thultannian Paganism.
Between 6400 and 6600, Aldsay settlers from the north managed to get a foothold in the area. In the north, the settlers lived side by side with the Indigenous population, but in the south, the arrival of the Aldsay led to massive clashes. Many towns were raided, and some were taken over permanently. The main difference was that the settlers in the south were exiled from Aedeland, while the northern settlers remained in touch with the homeland. The Aldsay brought the roots of what became the old Hallish language.
6700-6850 – Cyprien Hordes
Cyprien the Great left the Axiom River lands with a horde of horse lords and armoured foot soldiers after his brother succeeded to his father's death. Instead of fighting for the crown of the Axion tribes, he and his other brothers set forth to build their own realms. Cyprien moved north while his brothers scattered in all different directions, conquering the Alsa peninsula and using the fleet of the city-states to cross the Medion Sea to a land of green and pleasant hills, Thultannia. Cyprien's brothers settled their short-lived realms; others faltered; Cyprien himself conquered what is now Rosland and Kladania, naming his realm Roseraie after the pink roses native to southern Thultannia; what is now Cladania was named Clôturie after the indigenous sheep enclosures.
Cyprien conquered the whole of southern Thulthannia, with the Westdunn and Brinor mountains forming the boundary between his empire and the northern barbarians. The Penryn narrows entirely within his empire.
In his final years, Cyprien converted to Orkanan, converting all the lords of the empire. After his death, with no living heirs, his empire collapsed into many old Axiomais petty kingdoms. The Axiomais petty kings influenced old Hallish, transforming the language into the middle Hallish language.
Second Stoldavian Empire Era
Around 6950-7000, the north coast became part of the Greater Stoldavic Empire, while the east coast became an associated territory. Around 7150-7155, a civil war instigated by Stellist Helland led to the demise of centralist rule. The Greater Stoldavic Empire crumbled following the continuing civil war's damages, eventually breaking into many smaller kingdoms. The predecessor nation, the Kingdom of Naedraland, was one of those territories that regained autonomy in the 7220s. The Roseraie kingdom became Rosland under the new Hallish ethnic group, a union between the Axiomais lords and the old Aldsay-either natives.
Pan-Anarian War
The Kingdom of Rosland entered the Aschgæt Treaty in 7498, two years after its original signing. This resulted from the First Battle of the Soll that same year, which forced Halland to pick a side. Naedraland tried to remain neutral, but Alliance forces quickly occupied the Havencliff peninsula to secure passage for Aedeland through the Zeengten Strait. The Naedraland joined forces with the United League, trying to get support to retake the peninsula. It also led to an armed conflict between Rosland and Naedraland since both nations saw the Pan-Anarian War as a way to gain territory from each other.
The war efforts took a significant toll on Rosland, which was also forced to operate on other fronts during the war to support the Alliance. As a result, it lost ground on its home territory. Forced by public opinion, the Rosland government broke away from the Aschgaet Alliance and formed a pact with Einfach in 7511. It did not help Rosland to regain territory, even though Naedraland was fighting a two-front war, with the Alliance in the north and Rosland in the south. Rosland also suffers from retaliation from their former allies.
Unification
In 7513, Rosland signed a cease-fire with Naedraland. It was negotiated by Prince Alden, who, with his Hallish roots and Untfins marital partner, was able to bridge the gap between the two. Two years later, a secret treaty was signed, under which Rosland regained the territory Naedraland took during the war. Suddenly, Naedraland and Rosland are fighting for the exact cause instead of each other.
In 7523, both governments met to finalize a union. King Otto of Naedraland was dead and succeeded by Queen Mathilda, who married the now-king Alden II of Rosland. In 7531, their Heir was appointed king of the Union of Halland.
At first, only foreign affairs were shared in the Union, and as a result of the ongoing war, troops were set under joint command in 7533. This led to the first joint budget for the military in 7535. A year later, the toll union was implemented. Hyperinflation at the end of the war required a new currency; in 7554, the joint currency replaced the previous currencies.
In 7564, Halland is one of the signatory nations of the Treaty of Nisipari. They establish a contingent of peacekeeping forces in the newly formed Vittmark. It is also rewarded a port concession in Källbyholm.
Rossland had, in the year 7460s, settled outposts in the Kuvimbic sea and the southern Altaian, growing into the colonies of the Corentin islands, Crownlands and Bowersland by the start of the Pan-Anarian War. Naedraland had settled the Juleson islands now known as the reach coast islands.
After the Pan-Anarian War, the colonies consolidated, and Halland settled Edwin's land, Guder and Bernanian islands.
Wolgos Scourge
In 7599, Halland became involved in the Wolgos Scourge, as the crownlands and Bowersland became embroiled in the war as the Wolgos advanced and invaded. Halland acted selflessly as the horrors of the war became apparent and helped defend the remnant of the Stolvic Orderist Commonwealth (SOC) and its colonies from the onslaught; as the war turned, it helped to invade the Northern bind, fighting a bitter tundra war and fighting in the southern bind, painfully taking river by river. Halland wins the moral high ground but loses hundreds of thousands of young men, leading to the lost generation crisis.
After the war, Halland experienced a lack of manpower, with almost a million young men dead, and the crisis could have led to an economic collapse. To address the demographic gap caused by the war, Halland facilitated trade and migration treaties with Alsair and the Einhafan. Additionally, there was a significant influx of migrants from Altaia, D'Runia, and the Kuvimbic Sea.
Success Crisis Of 7640
The Halland success crisis began in 7640 after a series of unfortunate events involving King Carlin IX's sons, Crown Prince Edrin and Prince Timas. The brothers have been rivals since childhood. The crisis reached a peak during the Eldermere Affair, a reconciliation dinner hosted by Crown Prince Edrin, which mysteriously ended with Prince Timas's sudden death.
Many of the public and nobility accused Edrin of murder, leading Parliament to pressure King Carlin IX to disinherit him in favour of Princess Seren. The succession crisis deepened after King Carlin's death in 7643. Prince Edrin, backed by military factions loyal to him, claimed the disinheritance was illegal, as he had never been formally accused, investigated, or sentenced for Timas's death, asserting his right to the throne. However, Parliament proceeded with Queen Seren's coronation, prompting a military split and an attempted coup by Edrin's loyalists.
The succession crisis also sparked wider unrest: Northern Naedraland republicans rose for regional autonomy and a republican government, while in Rossland, Orderist firebrands incited militias. In Northern Naedreland, Aedelish adventurers landed to establish a new independent nation.
The civil war in Halland in the late 7640s saw multiple factions—Orderists, Republicans, and Monarchists—clashing. Violence from Aedeland's civil war spilt into Hallis due to Stoldish sympathizers hosting Aedelish agitators in the north. The conflict concluded with a Monarchist victory after a pact with the Republicans against the Orderists and Aedelish "adventurers." The monarchy survived but with a much-diminished influence over the government.
Halland's prolonged civil war, lasting four years, weakened the nation significantly, resulting in the loss of most of its overseas holdings. All Arctic territories were lost to Arvor under peacekeeping missions, and other possessions like Edwin's Land, the Junction Islands, and Southern Bowersland were ceded to Sokoku. North Bowersland became independent, leaving only a few oversea territories under Halland's control.
