Max Müller was the first Fører of the Technate of Aedeland.

Early life

Maximilian Müller was born in 7541 in Grönspång, Mörenburg, near the Helreich border, to Paula (née Hiedler), a homemaker, and Otto Müller, a civil servant. His family relocated from Inälvsdalen to Helreich in 7568. Müller studied accounting at the University of Östervallen, earning an MA and PhD at Aulë in 7561 and 7564, respectively.

Career and politics

Müller remained at Aulë as a faculty member in the Department of Government. In 7565, through contacts at Aulë, he became a consultant for the Sørtarnland Company's Operations Coordinating Board.

In 7570, Müller joined Jakob av Varung's Foreign Office. Varung defended him during a Skyggejæger investigation into his alleged Häverist sympathies, which began in 7566 and nearly led to his deportation. Müller was granted residency in 7571, allowing his family to immigrate from Helreich.

As a close aide to Varung, Müller played a key role in the negotiations preceding the 7574 Ærilar Conference. Varung's assassination deeply affected Müller, who believed Östervallen was behind the plot. The tragedy elevated Müller to national prominence when Fører Vilhelm av Ambrodring appointed him Foreign Secretary.

Foreign Secretary

Müller's Foreign Office faced immediate challenges, including the flags of convenience controversy early in his tenure. Confident a compromise with Anisora was possible, Müller pursued ill-advised legal challenges in Anisoran courts, which embarrassed the Ambrodring government. His frustration with Aedeland's allies strongly influenced Fører Vilhelm av Ambrodring, leading Müller to advocate for a realignment with Helreich and Anat Tahan—former enemies in the Pan-Anarian War but staunch supporters of the Straits Alliance. This shift in foreign policy also prompted the reversal of the ban on Häverist political organizations.

Fører

Though Müller began attending Häverist gatherings, he supported Vilhelm av Ambrodring in the 7580 elections. After the Häverist party won control, Müller openly endorsed them. Under Ásvaldr av Móslund, Aedeland’s first Häverist Anführer, Müller played a key role in implementing revolutionary reforms. Following Móslund’s unexpected death, Müller was appointed Fører by the newly formed Control Secretariat.

As Fører, Müller launched the ambitious Framleiðingarátak program to refine Helreich’s energy accounting system, developing a proto-Orderist philosophy he termed Technocracy. Early five-year plans faced inefficiencies, causing famine and shortages, but by the early 7590s, adjustments by the Research Office stabilized the economy. Optimism grew as Aedelish theorists, including Ødger av Estriðír, explored post-scarcity economics in works like Absurdities of Excess. However, this progress was curtailed by resource scarcity and the Wolgos Scourge, triggering an economic downturn that defined the latter part of Müller’s leadership.
