Exemplar Karla-Gustavia, more commonly known by her shorter name Ex. Kåga, is a post-imperial Exemplar from a Mellanhand Orkanan background, but mainly acknowledged by fringe congregations like that of Fjällsta Stift.

Short biography

Princess Karla Gustavia Mellanhand Vären was born in 7180 as the daughter of Emperor Styrbiörn. As such she was the younger sister of Emperors Erik II and Olof, the final emperors of the Greater Stoldavic Empire. In the events that led to the demise of the empire, like the defenestration of Östervallen, Karla Gustavia chose not to abandon the capital like her brother Otto, who withdrew to Kulla. Instead she used the imperial complex of Östervallen to attend to the wounded and homeless that were victim of the fights that broke out in the power vacuum of 7204-7206. She survived by staying within the main Mellanhand complex Trossamfundsala, where she denounced her imperial roots.

She got known under her initials KG, which in the language of the time was pronounced as Koh-Ghea (the ~a being added for the female form). The city government of Östervallen allowed KG to stay at the imperial palace complex, but she was not allowed to reside in any of the existing buildings. Instead, a cabin was raised in one of the inner courts, where KG was allowed to live while she continued her care for the homeless and wounded. In 7214 she was however exiled by the new city regime, who wanted to rid the city of all imperial connections. KG disappeared from the view of history writers. It is unknown where she has lived after her exile, there isn't even a certified death date available. It is also unknown where she has been buried and if her bones have been added to any ossuary.

Exemplar status

Kåga's self sacrifice under dangerous circumstances has been an example for Vallbo (inhabitants of Östervallen) for generations. The stories surrounding Kåga's activities between 7204 and 7214 and her sudden disappearance have added to her legendary status. Many sightings after 7214 have entered oral history, in which Kåga became a wandering myth. In oral traditions, many examples of good deeds towards war victims, homeless people and especially orphaned children have been attributed to Kåga. Even in the late 7200's, when Kåga would have been 90 or 100 years old, people still reported sightings. In folk believe, Kåga became a , a wandering spirit in the tradition of Orkanan mythology helping strangers.

The status of Kåga among refugees has remained a constant factor. In the 7200's many religious minorities were forced to move south into the Blue Mountains in order to avoid prosecution in the new nation states that emerged after the demise of the Greater Stoldavic Empire. A revival in Kåga's sightings happened during the Pan Anarian War and Three Way Conflicts. The sightings ended when Kåga was registered by Fjällsta Stift, in 7560 at the Grönkulla registry.

Legacy

In freethinker communities connected to Fjällsta Stift, Ex. Kåga is mentioned as an example of your roots not being important in order to play a part in Vind's master plan. In Kåga's case, her imperial and royal descent did not stop her from caring for the wounded, homeless and other innocent victims of warfare. It's the deeds that matter, not your ancestry.

Kåga's Stuga, the little house in the imperial palace's courtyard where she lived between 7205 and 7214, is still present at the Royal Palace of Vittmark. It is one of the few post-imperial building that are allowed to remain inside the complex since renovations started in 7564.
