Oblasts of Arvor

The oblasts of Arvor are areas used for administrative, geographical, and political demarcation within the Avorian Democratic Republic (ADR). They are the equivalent of provinces or states in other nations. The current arrangement is the result of reforms instituted in the early years of the ADR. For the purpose of sorting and delivering mail, Arvorian Post (Арворианская почта) assigns specific postcodes to each oblast, and subdivided postcodes for each raion within.

The main municipality in each oblast is listed underneath its description. With some oblasts, unique sites may also be listed.

Northwest Arvor

• Cherep Rok

Named for the “skull rocks” prominent in its southern central area, this province was site of a great battle between warring Pequatl tribes in the mid-62nd century before becoming a meeting ground for their great tribal councils. The oblast seat is Surino, one of the nation’s 15 largest cities.

• Glubokaya Dolina

Named for the deep valleys abutting the northern mountains. A major hub of mining and geological studies. The oblast seat is Gelerod.

• Gornaya Zhemchuzhina

Named for the “mountain pearl”, the highest peak in the northern mountains along the border, which is snow-capped year-round. The oblast seat is Achilovka, one of the nation’s 15 largest cities.

• Lazurnyaya

Called the “azure province”, this oblast encompasses the northern Doneyevka Islands. The oblast seat is Ronskoy.

• Nikolayevsk

Named in honor of Nikolai Antonovich Varlamov, the explorer and cartographer who led the first Arvorian settlers into the area. The oblast seat is Volgosnoy.

• Rusalyn

So-named after the legendary Dakhani water spirits, encompassing the southern Doneyevka Islands. The oblast seat is Novomonyev.

• Skazkovaya

Called the “folk story region” for the different tales of legendary cryptids the ancient Pequatl believed called the land home, such as the “skin walker”, “horned wanderer”, and the “slender sorrow”. The oblast seat is Tverkuta.

• Tsvetkovaya

Known as the “flowering land”, this fertile province is one of the nation’s breadbaskets and a major agricultural area. The oblast seat is Kemersk.

• Vodyanaya

Nicknamed the “watery land” after the Four Rivers that flow through it. Long a hub of aquaculture and farming, it is famous for its rich soil. The oblast seat is Anaprudny, one of the nation’s 15 largest cities.

• Yagodnaya

Commonly called the “berry land”, this coastal region is home to citrus and berry farms that produce much of the country’s warm weather fruit. The oblast seat is Saravda.

• Zarechnaya

Located north of Vodyanya Oblast, thus named for being “beyond the rivers”. Aquaculture and farming are core activities. The oblast seat is Belekarino, one of the nation’s 15 largest cities.

• Zharovetsk

Situated near the northern border, this oblast is named “heat region” for its year-round warm weather and semi-tropical rains. The oblast seat is Prokolsk.

Northeast Arvor

• Drevnyaya

Named the “ancient land”, honouring the original home territories of the earliest Pequatl tribes in the region. The oblast seat is Domodrinsk.

• Gorodets

Named for the “little towns” of the area, this oblast is famous for the many small villages established here early in the Commonwealth days. The oblast seat is Tuymadrov

• Kamennaya

Named for the soaring, “rocky” mountains of the area, this province is one of the nation’s leaders in the mining industry. Several of the best-known mining co-operatives are based here, as well as industrial concerns connected to the ongoing mining efforts. The oblast seat is Podobnya.

• Nebesnyaya

Known as the “heavenly land”, this province was a sacred place to the ancient Pequatl, who worshipped the earth spirits here and made animal sacrifices for good fortune and peace. The oblast seat is Nevinza.

• Oryolskaya

Named “eagle’s region” for the multiple majestic bird species who call the dense forests home. The oblast seat is Pursk.

• Poyushchiye Kamni

Named in honour of the Singing Stones, a rock formation in the north of the area where the ancient Pequatl believed they could hear the voices of the wind spirits when the breeze blew through them. Once a site of seasonal rituals. The oblast seat is Menovo.

• Serebryanyy Krai

Literally the “silver land”, this province is also prominent for its rich mining. Ancient Pequatl oral traditions taught that the fire spirits dwelled beneath the mountains. The oblast seat is Almerom.

• Solnechnogorsk

Known as the “sunny mountains” for the sun rays that crest the mountaintops early each morning, numerous industrial co-operatives operate here in proximity to the mining operations further north. The oblast seat is Salarinsk, one of the nation’s 15 largest cities.

• Vikhristov

Named for the “vikhr”, or whirlwinds, the breezy plains of the province are a regional crossroads and home to both agriculture and industry. The oblast seat is Beryoshov.

• Vladimirovka

Called “Vladimir’s Land” in honour of Vladimir Vladimirovich Alimov, who established the city of Rodovinsk, which is one of the nation’s 15 largest cities and also the oblast seat. The province is a hub of technology and small industry.

• Yarovaya Bereg

Named for the “sunny shores” along the Vitherian Sea, the province is a popular holiday destination. It is the southernmost oblast of the region. The oblast seat is Ishikovo.

• Zatenennyy Bereg Oblast - “shaded shores”

Considered the sister province of Yarovaya Bereg, the “shady shores” sit in the shadow of the mountains to their north and are an area of mixed industry. The oblast seat of Lorsk, one of the nation’s 15 largest cities, is a major industrial and rail hub as well as a prominent shipbuilding node.

Central Arvor

• Aleksandrya Zemlya

Literally "Alexander's Land", named in honour of Aleksandr Antonovich Tarakanov, who was seen as the leader of the expedition which first brought the Arvorian people to D'Runia. It is also known as the "Capital Oblast" (Столичная область). The oblast seat is Cherenovsk, capital of the republic and one of the nation's 15 largest cities.

• Belomorskaya

Named "white sea" for the original name of Topol Bay, this oblast is a popular destination for weekend holidays and has a vibrant coastal culture. Popular activities include sail boating, surfing, fishing. The oblast seat is Nazarino.

• Krasnoflora

Literally "red flora", so-named for the breathtaking red hues the leaves turn in the autumn. Several industrial and commercial concerns form a key part of the local economy. The oblast seat is Kirivo, itself a major industrial city and one of the 15 largest in the nation.

• Leshyansk

Derived from the "leshy", forest spirits from ancient Dakhani belief, for the densely forested reaches within its boundaries. The oblast seat is Vladikhnda.

• Mosky

"Oblast on the sea" for its location, situated on the peninsular between the Topol Bay and Himarian Sea. Aquaculture is a key part of the local economy, as is maritime tourism. The oblast seat is Bereska.

• Novyy Mir

Called the "new land" in honour of it being where the first Arvorians landed when they reached D'Runia. The oblast seat is Chelyazov.

• Ozerochka

The name of this province, meaning "little lakes", derives from the cluster of lakes found here. It is considered some of the most peaceful countryside in the republic, with many quiet villages and towns popular for retiring citizens. The oblast seat is Komsotrov.

• Raduga

Called the "rainbow land" for its picturesque coastal scenery and golden beaches, this province is one of the nation's most populous and the economic hub of the country. Its oblast seat is Sevestroma, the nation's largest city.

• Solnechnaya

The "sunny land", this province is considered the part of the Arvorian heartland for its rolling plains and light forests. Some light agriculture is done here. The oblast seat is Dmivartovsk.

• Svetlaya

Called the "bright coast" for its location on the eastern seaboard. The oblast seat, Yelayovsk, is home to the national naval academy and one of the key eastern ports.

• Velikaya Zemlya

Called the "great land", this province is also considered part of the Arvorian heartland with its rolling plains and well-known for its tranquil scenery. The oblast seat is Zhelemas.

• Zelenyye Ravniny

Named the "green plains", this is the third province of the Arvorian heartlands. It is a mixture of rolling plains and light forests. The oblast seat is Lyrmansk, which is also one of the nation's 15 largest cities.

Southern Arvor

• Chernaya Reka

Named for the "black river" that runs through it, this province is one of the border oblasts of in the northern reaches of southern Arvor. The oblast seat is Beyrortsy.

• Kholodnaya Zemlya

Its name meaning "cold land", this is one of the southernmost provinces of the country, with colder weather year-round. The oblast seat is Vorobodny.

• Lunary Oblast

Called the "starry province", it is so named for the national observatory located in the oblast seat of Astrayevsk.

• Mramornyye Gory

The name of this province means "marble mountains", for the Polepovets Mountains with their marbled appearance and high peaks. The closed city of Zelerino, the home of TsINK, is located here. The oblast seat is Gelevgrad, one of the nation's 15 largest cities.

• Nizhniy Krai

Called the "lower land" for the valleys along the Polepovets Mountains, this province is the nation's southern mining hub. The oblast seat is Yelechkala.

• Olginskaya

"Olga's Land", named for Olga Sergeyevna Aroseva, a geologist who carried out one of the first mineral surveys of the region before mining operations began seventy years ago. The oblast seat is Stavrokhov.

• Serafimsk

Known as "seraph's land", named for the legends of "beings of light" seen around the mountains during the days of the earliest settlers in the area. The oblast seat is Zeleromorsk, one of the nation's 15 largest cities. Mount Yarokovo is located in this province.

• Vistyansk

Known as "the vista" for the Lidovo Cliffs, the most popular tourist attraction in the nation's southern provinces. The oblast seat is Vidnosta.

• Vostkovaya

The "eastern lands", near the far southeast of Arvor. It is a mixture of light industry and scenic points. The oblast seat is Lenigansk, one of the nation's 15 largest cities.

• Yuzhnyye Snega

The name of this province literally means "southern snows" and is one of the southernmost oblasts of the nation. It is famous for its year-round chilly weather and maintains limited mining operations. The oblast seat is Krylovsk.

• Zimniye Ostrova

Called the "Winter Isles", the tranquil cold plains of this province is home to mixed industry and cold water fishing, and is home to several military installations. The oblast seat is Obnikovo.

• Zimovye

Called the "winter plains", this is the third of the most southern provinces of the nation. The oblast seat is Obnislavl.
