Orkanan Phraseology refers to specific terms and expressions used within the Orkanan religion that are significant in everyday language and culture. Here are some key terms:
- Alf: A religious leader of a socken (a congregation of stims), though some stims have their own alf. Expression: "If it rains on the herr, it drizzles on the alf"—meaning the common man is always affected by the actions of the leaders.
- Ätte: Refers to a line marriage. The term "ätte" in older languages (aiths) means "which belongs together." The related term "ättling" refers to a presumptive heir of the leadership of the line marriage and the stim, socken, or stift it is heading. Still in use to indicate a presumptive heir outside line marriages as well.
- Dyddiwedd: The "end of the world" myth in Cydhlig Orkana, which predicts that the world's end will come through a currently unknown future technology.
- Här (Wortsproke) or Heer (Stoldic): Refers to armed forces under a herr or härad, often synonymous with local police forces or regional militias. Note: the word "här" also means "here" in many northern Stoldavian languages.
- Herr: Literally "lord," a religious and worldly leader of a stift. Also used for a judge within the administrative organisations based on Orkanan belief systems. Expression: "If it rains on the herr, it drizzles on the alf"—meaning the common man is always affected.
- Hundred (Härad, Herrede, Cantrefi): A worldly administrative unit within Orkanan traditions on the same level as a stift. Expression: "Let the hundred take over"—meaning to create a mess or fail.
- King (Kong, Konung, Kung): The highest religious and worldly leader within the Orkanan belief systems. A king is the head of a gathering of herrs (stift leaders).
- Mellanhand: The largest congregation within Orkanan, based on the shared belief in Vind having a master plan and humanity having a role to fulfill in that plan. The name refers to the line marriage of Mellanhand, which acted as the emperor of the Greater Stoldavic Empire.
- Mennity: A group of branches within Orkanan that do not believe in a master plan by Vind, believing instead that the current dynamic situation is the final stage. Humanity's task is to come closer to Vind through understanding. A follower of Mennity Orkanan is called a Mennitist.
- Race of the Stars (Rasse der Sterne): An extraterrestrial civilization believed to have created Gotha and all life on it, as described originally by Ludwig Volker. They form the basis of Stellist-Orkanan.
- Sammen: The gathering place for souls who have passed the test of life on Gotha and have joined together in a higher collective state of consciousness. Expression: "Bring someone to sammen"—means to give excessive compliments. "Sammen on Gotha" refers to a very pleasant place to be, often involving a large group of people.
- Sike: The Orkanan depiction of hell, present only in the Mellanhand congregations. Expression: "Go to sike"—in Mennity congregations, this phrase is used to exclude someone from a group, depicting them as followers of Mellanhand. In Mellanhand congregations, the expression is used to send someone into solitude.
- Socken (Sokken, Sogn, Pfarr, Escabaedd): A gathering of stims, often without a territorial or administrative boundary. Expression: "Rely on your socken"—means to trust your gut feeling.
- Soul Wandering (Siälavandring): Reincarnation according to a minority branch in Orkanan. "Soul wanderers" are followers of the branches of Orkanan that believe in reincarnation.
- Stellist Orkanan: A divergent branch of Orkanan centered on following the footsteps of the "Race of the Stars," the creators of life on Gotha. "Stellist" is also used derogatorily for people relying on science and technology, often referring to modernist Orkanans in eastern Stoldavia.
- Stift (Stiv): An administrative religious unit within Orkanan, usually at a regional level. Worldly and religious tasks, such as registries and judicial courts, are often managed here.
- Stim: The extended family as the basic and most decentralised unit within Orkanan. These can even include personnel or serfs. A stim pledges allegiance to a congregation called socken.
- Stond: Stims and sockens not connected to a stift, often freestanding congregations outside the main branches of Orkanan (Stellism, Mellanhand, and Mennity). Expression: "Go back to your stond"—a negative remark about people taking minority opinions or standpoints.
- Vind (Wind, Vind): The omnipotent central deity within Orkanan. Expressions: "Vind blows"—Vind is all around us and aware of one's actions. "Vind knows"—meaning no one knows except for Vind. "Vind blows, Vind knows"—meaning "shit happens."
