Juranese (Juranués) is a language from the Dragar language family spoken primarily in the central mainland regions of Atregona and in the Ferric Mountains between xxxx and xxxx. The language separated from the southern branch of the Eastern Dragar languages, forming part of the Juro-Vaixellan group.

History and Classification

Juranese emerged when its original speakers migrated east from the Axiom Basin to settle along the Ferric Mountains and Vaixellan coast. This migration, dating to the later years of the Dragar monopoly, is not entirely understood, but some scholars believe it was due to strategic military deployment by the central Dragar states to protect borders from southern raiders and secure cooperation from eastern "duces" (leaders).

Juranese shares common ancestry with other languages in Northern Anaria (Anaria Major), particularly its closest relative, the Vaixellan language. It also has an isolated variant called Tibastian, spoken in the xxxx region of xxxx.

Geographic Distribution

Juranese is spoken in three primary regions:

  • Southeastern xxxx
  • Central mainland Atregona
  • Ferric Mountains region of xxxx (almost extinct)

The isolated variant, Tibastian, developed separately in xxxx due to geographical isolation and evolved into a distinct dialect, though some consider it a separate language.

Current Status

Juranese is a dwindling language, facing decline due to the expansion of Urdinese and Atregonese languages and the expulsion of local Juranese-speaking communities in the Bojovian side of the Ferric Mountains. It is not officially recognized in any country and remains unregulated, leading to numerous dialectal varieties.

Dialects

Juranese has several dialects:

  • Southeastern xxxx variant.
  • Central Mainland Atregona variant.
  • Ferric Mountains variant (almost extinct).
  • Tibastian variant in xxxx (isolated and evolved independently).

Phonology and Vocabulary

Juranese uses the Anarian alphabet with some unique variants and lacks a standardized orthography due to its unregulated status. A comparative vocabulary table with related languages is provided below:

Tibastian Language

Tibastian is a variant of Juranese spoken in Magavarandica. It evolved independently due to geographic isolation caused by the expansion of the Urdinese language. While Tibastian retains many characteristics of Juranese, it is considered a separate language by the Errean government and is one of the traditional languages of xxxx.
