old stuff:

Impport (native name: Portus Imperiosus), also known as "Port Imperial," is a major city and metropolitan area in Auresia. Located on the northeastern shores of Barceto Prefecture in Aquitania Province, just ten miles south of the eastern gates of the Hattaro Straits, Impport is a prosperous trade center and one of the largest metropolises in the world. The city is renowned for its bustling harbor, its status as an economic nexus, and for being home to the Imperial Maritime Institute and the Imperial Exchange. It is often referred to by its nicknames: "City That Never Sleeps," "City of Ships," and "City of the Titan," the latter referencing the great statue that stands astride the main entrance to the inner harbor.

History Pre-Empire Before its elevation to a port city at the heart of the Auresian Empire, Impport was known as Solanos Mor, the largest port and capital city of the Kingdom of Portoga. With a population of approximately 160,000, it was a bustling nexus of activity, famous for its commerce, trade, and exchange. The city's grand bazaar was renowned throughout Anaria, where one could trade for virtually any commodity from around the world.

Imperial Era When the Auresian Empire was formed in 2893 EST, the capital moved to Cedelphia, and the former capitals of the constituent kingdoms were transformed into major cities within the new empire, albeit with different names and roles. Solanos Mor was renamed Impport or "Port Imperial" by a vote of the Council of State and has retained that name since.

Impport played a significant role during the Pan-Anarian War, becoming the site of decades-long urban guerrilla warfare. Approximately 200,000 Auresians lost their lives over nearly thirty years to reclaim the city from Helreich forces. Despite the prolonged conflict and significant casualties, Auresians took solace in the fact that the iconic Titan statue survived the war.

Today, the Impport metropolitan area is home to an additional 6.4 million people, making it one of the largest and most vibrant cities globally.

Sites of Interest Impport is celebrated as a testament to Auresian business acumen, free-market prosperity, and the dynamic energy of its people. The city is a sprawling metropolis known for its architecture, historical sites, and numerous cultural events. It is also a popular destination for foreign tourists seeking luxury shopping, high-end markets, and a diverse array of exotic foods and goods.

Some notable sites include:

Impport Harbor: A bustling port area and one of the largest harbors in the world. Netaluma Bridge: A significant architectural landmark in the city. The Grand Fortress: A historic fortification that played a crucial role during the Pan-Anarian War. Impport Stock Exchange: A major financial hub for trade and commerce in the region. Government Executive Impport is governed by a Praetor, appointed by the prefectural authorities with approval from the Provincial Exarch.

Legislative The Praetor is supported by a council of sixteen representatives, two from each district, who oversee various areas of city management and services.

Judicial The city falls under the jurisdiction of the Imperial Courts System, which handles all legal matters within its territory.

Services Utilities As the largest city in the Auresian Empire, Impport's infrastructure is supported by the extensive Impport Works. This vast network includes maintenance corridors, lines for electricity, water, heat, and gas, and facilities for waste management. Additionally, the city has an intricate system of drainage tunnels, pumps, and diversions to protect against flooding, particularly in the waterside areas.

Transportation Impport offers various transportation modes, including vehicles, horse-drawn carriages, trolley cars, and bicycles. For longer distances, the Mezenti Skyport provides air travel to every major city in the empire and numerous international destinations. The Central Imperial Station is a significant rail hub, handling thousands of travelers and vast amounts of cargo daily.

Defenses As the "Exterior Gate of the Hattaro," Impport falls under the defense jurisdiction of the Second Order of the Military of Auresia. This division, part of the Sovereign Armed Forces, can mobilize swiftly to protect the city. The port, metro, and rail stations are secured by the Transit Militia, and Task Forces I and II of the II Fleet of the Imperial Auresian Navy berth at the Impport Naval Yard.

The Grand Fortress, a critical link in the defense of the straits, was heavily damaged during the Helreich invasion in the Pan-Anarian War but has since been restored and upgraded with modern defenses, including extensive anti-aircraft capabilities.
