Raguna Roku is a caldera formning an island or island group falling under the jurisdiction of Tanah Ek, a member state of Sokoku. Apart from some researchers and operators of a lighthouse, the islands are uninhabited. The island is an active stratovolcano, which leads to a continuously shifting landscape and coastline. At this moment (7690), Raguna Roku consists of three islands Pantung, Serjang and Cisaroku, measuring about 24 square kilometers in total. The highest point is just below 800 meters above sea level. Pumace deposits from eruptions keep eroding away, changing the coastlines, while at the same time the finer eroded sand forms sandbanks and land spits. The three islands used to form a volcanic edifice in the form of a single island. The three islands and the bay they enclose are called Raguna Roku, while the volcano itself is commonly referred to as Roku.

Before the explosive eruptions of 7119 the island was about three times larger and home to about 3000 people, according to tax records from Tanah Ek's predecessor states. When the tax collector tried to visit the island in 7124 after a few years of interruption, it was found completely devastated and broken up into four small islets without any animal life or human presence. It is believed that the interrupted visits were due to the Julian Event, which might have been caused by the volcano, or might have caused the volcano to erupt so violently.

A minor eruption in 7629 destroyed the entire island of Anak Roku that had formed as an active volcano after the 7120 eruption. A new, still submerged volcano has been forming since just off the coast of Cisaroku.

At this moment there is only one building standing on Cisaroku, serving as lighthouse, communication and radar tower as well as volcano observatory. It is permanently equipped with a helicopter providing rescue services and assistance at sea, while at the same time serving as a ready-to-use evacuation vehicle for the entire crew. The rather quick sequence of the 7629 eruption, resulting in the loss of all of the 23 lighthouse crew and researchers, has resulted in strict security arrangements including the permanent presence of a helicopter.

The 7119 eruption of Roku

At an uncertain date somewhere during 7119 the stratovolcano erupted in what currently is estimated to be the most violent volcano eruption during recorded history. With an estimated Volcanic Explosivity Index (VEI) of 6, the eruption was equivalent to 200 megatons of TNT or about about 10,000 times the nuclear yield of the Waringa Fields nuclear device deployed during the Second coalition War. The eruption ejected approximately 35 km3 (of rock. The eruption destroyed two-thirds of the island.

It is speculated that the eruption itself or a landslide the eruption triggered on the island's submerged northern slope created the Julian Event, which wiped out much of civilisation on the coasts of the Julian Sea. On the other hand there are theories that the earthquakes and shock waves of the Julian Event itself triggered the volcano's violent explosion instead. The eruption is said to have caused tsunami's about 30 meters high, or according to other researcher up to 35-50 meters.

The death toll of the event is unknown. In case the Julian Event caused or contributed to the eruption, most of the coastlines would already have been struck by much larger tsunami's killing hundreds of thousands of people. The effects of a smaller scale tsunami disaster on a coastline already devastated by a previous event is much smaller. It is commonly assumed that the vast majority of the population would not have survived the effects of the meteor impact. But in case the entire Julian Event can be attributed to the Roku volcano, then the entire death toll of the Julian Event can be traced back to the 7119 eruption.
