Nubugaru is the Bahaso and Kakuri name used for the descendants of the Stoldavic settlers from Fisks that form their own community within the state of Mirei, Sokoku. The term as an audiophonic approximation of the Wortsproke word nybyggare, meaning settler or more literally "new builder". Nubugaru became the more widely used word in the 7640's when the descendants from the colonists needed to get indicated with a different word than Fisks that had been used previously. Fisks not only had a negative connotation because of the colonial background, but is also still in use as a company name. Many of the settlers' descendant have no direct connection to the original Fisks stim either.

History

The first settlers from the Fisks stim coming from Talpå (present day Vittmark arrived in the region that currently is Sokoku in 7523. The stim, their trading house and merchant vessels fled the ongoing Pan-Anarian War, where the Vittmarker predecessor nations Hagenand Ådalen fought to gain contol over the important harbor city of Talpå. About 900 refugees from Talpå settled on an island off the coast of Bowersland they called Gilles Carls after the leader of the Fisks stim at that time. The settlement got the name of Carls Nybygge.

The company and stim members settled on more islands, combining agriculture, ship maintenannce and unaffiliated trade as far north as present day Kamura. In 7570 the island groups became a member state of Vittmark under the name of Fisks. At that time, the number of Stoldavic settlers was about 13,500 on the southern islands. It quickly grew to 55,000 on the entire island group within a decade because of federal administrators, military, traders and industrials moving in. In 76XX, when Fisks as an overseas territory got cut off from Vittmark during theWolgos Scourge, the amount of settlers and their decendants was about 68,500.

The occupation of the northern islands, first by Kamura, then The Bind and finally Kamura again, led to some re-migration to Vittmark as well as a relocation to Shuuen for the majority of the settlers. Fisks played an important part in the decolonization process, being able to emply large merchant vessels for quick transportation of equipment and combatants of rebel forces. When Sokoku was founded as a member state in 76XX, the population of Fisks' ethnicity counted about 48,000. The Fisks - Kakuri Cooperation got a special status within status, which eventually led to the small member state of Mirei which is the home base for the Fisks community.

In order to separate the company with its headquarters in Berawan on Shuuen and the clearly distinct ethnicity, the word nybyggare refering inhabitants of the town of Carls Nybygge was getting used more often from the 7630's on. In 7654 Nybyggare Stift was formed as a non-territorial entity gathering all the settlers and descendants. But unlike the stifts in Mellanhand Orkanan this one was not a religious congregation but simply an ethnic community.

Nybyggare Stift

Nybyggare Stift, colloquially translated as the settlers' community, is one of the four ethnic communities of the state of Mirei. Members of the Nubugaru community living outside Mirei are not registered in that state, but in their state of residence. As such, the ethnic community has fixed seats in local government in places with a large Nybyggare presence, like the cities of Berewan and Kyusigai on Shuuen.

At present (7690) Nybyggare Stift has about 136,000 registered members of which 72,000 are living in the state of Mirei. Furthermore there are about 90,000 associated members, which are people of mixed Stoldavic and Izto or Hueiwei descent.
