Phasian canal countries, sometimes Phasian canal nations, has become a common term used to refer to the countries with canals connecting to the Phasian Ocean. Absent the canals, the Phasian is, despite its size, isolated from global trade and economics. As a result, the canals, which connect the Phasian to other global waters, such as the Ovestan Sea and the Asherian Sea (and, ultimately, the Shangti Ocean), are considered key strategic and economic routes. Since there are limited routes for canals to connect to the Phasian, the Phasian canal countries exert out-sized economic influence due to their locations and the fact they have one of the canals linking the Phasian to global trade.

Despite the obvious potential for the Phasian canal countries to form a "canal collective" to more effectively exert influence on trade from the Phasian to the rest of the world, they have not done so. Some pundits believe this is due to differing politics and economic philosophies while others attribute it to a lack of regional coordination.1 Considering the history of similar efforts, such as the Straits Cartel, the interests of global trade requires consideration of the potential influence of the Phasian canal countries. After all, Negasi gained control of the Ubani Canal in 76xx by nationalizing it.2

While there is no specific definition for the term "Phasic canal countries", its reference is pretty clear since only specific countries host a canal that connects the Phasian to other bodies of water.
