The Julian Sea is a body of water south of the continent of Altaia, bordered mainly by the nation state of Sokoku to the east, south and west. Through the Chaim Strait and Askers Strait it is connected to the Kaartu Sea and Shangti Ocean respectively, making the Julian Sea a foremost part of the sea routes between Anaria and Davai.

The name Julian Sea is the Anarian name, given by colonists from Halland, named after Prince Julian who was the main investor in the Hallish explorations of the 7120's. The local name for the sea is Laut Tengah (Middle Sea) in most Lazeh and Sokokan languages, while mainland Altaians tend to call it Shadiaahji (Southern Sea).

The region, both the sea floor and the surrounding islands, are volcanically active because of a complicated pattern of plate tectonics. The sea has an approximate size of 3,360,000 km2, depending on the exact formulation of its borders. The three largest islands in the sea are XX (part of XX) at 2781 km2, followed by Carlsö (or Kakurijima) in the Sokokan state of Mirei at 2379 km and Hinatah (Tanah Ek) at 1959 km2. Carlsö is an extinct volcano, while Hinatah is assumed to have two active volcanoes, even none of them has erupted since the early 7100's. The most notorious volcano however is Raguna Roku, located rather central in the sea, about 270 km northeast of Tanah Ek.

The region around the Julian Sea suffered a massive catastrophe in 7118 or 7119, a disaster named the Julian Event that most probably was caused by a meteorite impact southwest of Carlsö. The meteor strike caused huge tsunami's, destroying almost all coastal cities and regions of the area, including the trading union of the Tsuki Integrality. When Anarian explorers entered the sea in the 7120's to 7140's, they only found local kingdoms with small settlements on all coasts, leading to the false assumption that the region never had seen any significant civilisation before the arrival of the explorers and settlers.

During the 77th century, the Julian Sea has almost become an internal waterway within the nation of Sokoku, bordering not only three sides of the sea but also havin territory north of both east-west passages. Access to and transportation through the Julian Sea is however secured by international treaties, with the Sokokan navy actively upholding open access to these important waterways and passages.
