Aêrion
Personal details
Hēgemṓn

Aêrion is the Achilleionian Hēgemṓn and God-King of Kaliphos.

Very ancient pre-Orkanan Achilleionian tradition identified a pre-cataclysmic messianic figure who would return in the clouds from the north to reclaim his kingdom. When Orkanan was brought to the islands by Ex. Andréas this figure was incorporated into Vind, called Aêrion among the Achilleionians. The arrival of Grímur coincided with a number of prophetic signs of the God-King's return and he was received by many as the second coming of Aêrion.

Grímur is a major figure in the Æðelendinga Saga which chronicles the lives and exploits of great men during the Aldsegian Golden Age from approximately 6000 to 6800. According to the sagas, Grímur, is exiled along with his supporters during the dynastic struggles of the time. The band first travels to Aereyjar, known as the Chain of Vind, where they encounter Orkanan Ex. Adamnáin who converts Grímur and encourages him to travel further. Grímur then encounters a number of extraordinary creatures and people before ultimately arriving at the Achilleionian isles. Æðelendinga Saga is silent on Grímur's further exploits.

According to Achilleionian tradition Grímur's ships appeared from a dense fog in the early hours of midsummer's day and was foretold by a comet of exceptional brightness. He was taken by the islanders to the holy isle where he was received by the Atroposides and confirmed to be the incarnation of Aêrion. As Aêrion, Grímur united the city states of Achilleion under the Hegemony of Auérsa.

According to tradition, Aêrion has ruled Achilleion for 1490 years.

Role in Government

Aêrion is the absolute monarch, the God-King, ruling Kaliphos as his personal domain. As Hēgemṓn, Aêrion has command of the military and foreign policy of Achilleion subject to the restraints of the Synedrion. He has varying degrees of authority over the various city-states of Achilleion. In the self-governing city-states of Epiphanion, Arkaléon, Myrinē, Taurēsion, and the Thalassían Triarchy, Aêrion is a figurehead. However, the subordinated city-states of Trismegíteion, Lanzarētē, Lakonē, and Kyros are subject to Aêrion who has the authority to appoint and dismiss their rulers.

Role in Religion

Aêrion is the head of Orkanan in Achilleion and serves as the chief priest in many cultic practices on the holy island of Zōphkēs.
