Guðfrøðr av Rygír is the third and current Fører of Aedeland and high priest of the Church of Aedeland.

Early life

Guðfrøðr was born at Ærilar's Áræði birthing cener in 7667. His father, Guðfrøðr inn Eldri, is the only son of Arnsteinn av Rygír, the then heir apparent and future second Fører of Aedeland, and at the time the elder Guðfrøðr's was civil servant in service to the Styðja. His mother is Sieglinde, daughter of the ancient and noble Balles of Ærilar. Following a scandalous divorce soon after his birth, Guðfrøðr's father renounced his claims to join the ancient Holy Order of Aetherion and Guðfrøðr was sent to live with his paternal grandfather, Hrodebert.

Military service

Guðfrøðr volunteered for military service at fifteen and was admitted to the Lancers of Aerilar. At the age of eighteen he was offered a commission into the Valkryja and successfully completed flight training in 7687. He served a single tour at Fjarrihreiðr where he was promoted to Captain.

Career and politics

The death of Arnsteinn sparked the succession crisis of 7689. Since the abdication of his son, Guðfrið the Elder, the Fører had refused to name an heir and many speculated that Arnsteinn had not named a successor in the hope that his son will return to his position. In his anger, Arnsteinn had refused to recognize Guðfrøðr, his grandson, and had instead shown favor to the sons of his daughter Thérèse. Her eldest son, Danpr, called the surtr, “black”, was for several years regarded as the likely heir until he was exiled to Elysion for attempted murder.  His younger brother Lukáš was a favorite of Arnsteinn though widely recognized as unfit for leadership and well under the influence of his brother and mother. Upon Arnsteinn's death rumors spread that Danpr would return to Ålesund to take the leadership. Guðfrøðr was returned in secret from Maleficarion and quickly installed as Fører. Agents of the Skyggejæger captured Danpr as he disembarked and he was ultimately executed for violating the terms of his exile.

Fører

Guðfrøðr is widely considered a more decisive than his father and an improvement over the excesses of his grandfather. His short leadership has to date been met with optimism.

Personal life

Marriage and children

Guðfrøðr is married to Aurvandill, daughter of the ancient and noble Kaeys of Maleficarion. Together they have two sons, Cnut and Hróðr.
