Kota Kotonoh is the capital city of Kotonoh, a member state of Sokoku. It is a conurbation of several smaller settlements that have been built together by an efficient overlaying grid system. As a single city, it was founded in 7620 to serve as the capital of the member state. But its roots go back much longer. The city is covering most of the Lipong region of Kotonoh. Since Kotonoh has been resisting as many Anarian symbols and rituals as possible, it does not have a flag or city emblem.
Etymology
The name literally means "Kotonoh City". Since one of the explanations for the island's name is Kota Ono as a reference to the capital of a predecessor kingdom, it is therefore possible that the city name actually means "city of Ono city".
History
Already in colonial times there was talk of building a new capital in the inland region of Lipong. The new Sokokan government concluded that the existing administrative center of Kotonoh, which at the time was the port of Dakahatte, was in an unsuitable location for further development of the island. As a result, it was determined that a new capital on the Lipong Plain should be established. The plain itself provided an unusually large expanse of flat, well-drained land which is relatively uncommon in the otherwise mountainous geography of Kotonoh.
Roadways in the urban district were laid to make a grid plan, often overlapping existing built-up areas. But instead of demolishing the existing buildings, most of the new capital's structure was built around it. The master plan for 500,000 inhabitants was carried out in 50 years, exactly as planned. Since then the city is mainly growing through redevelopment.
