Toponymy of Achilleion is a gazetteer of proper place and geographic names associated with the Achilleionian islands including transliteration, pronunciation, and etymology. Names are of Achilleionian-Parnethian (Ach.Par.) origin or loanwords from Old Aedelish (O.Aed.), Old Anisoran (O.An.) and Tahani.

City Names

Airilópolis (/eye-ree-LOW-po-lease/, Ach. Αἰριλόπολις) on the northern Ádelonian coast of Achilleion founded by second-wave Aedelish colonist from Ærilar. Translates to "City or Ærilians" or "City of the Renown Ones" from O.Aed. æri meaning honor, renown, glory and the Achi.Par. suffix polis meaning city.

Állendor (/AH-len-dor/, Ach. Ἄλλενδῶρ) in Ádelon region of northern Achilleion founded by first-wave Aldsegian colonists. Translates to "place of the Ällens" from O.Aed. Ällens, an Aldsegian tribe from central Stoldavia and a dialectal variant of the pro.An. root arya, meaning noble, and dôr, meaning dwelling.

Andalýthon (/Ah-ndah-LEE-thon/, Ach. Ἀνδαλύθων) on the Skiuöldēs peninsula in northern Achilleion founded by first-wave Aldsegian colonists. Translates to "the land of the Andals" from the O.Aed. Andls, meaning spirit or breath, and Ach.Par. suffix ýthon, meaning a region of habitation.

Ankytheron (/An-kee-theh-ron/, Ach. Ἀγκύθηρον) on the minor isle of the same name in the Tashgur Channel. Translates to "anchoring place" from ankura, meaning anchor, and the suffix ēron which designates a place.

Taurēsion (/tow-REE-see-on/, Ταυρήσιον) on Zophkís. An major ancient cultic site. From taûros, meaning bull.

Teníros (/Ten-EE-ros/, Τενῖρος) in eastern Achilleion. From teínō, meaning to stretch, to extend, to strive, and éros, meaning desire or longing.

Thera (/TAY-rah/, Θήρᾱ) an ancient place on Zophkís at the site of balneotheraputic geothermal springs. Translates to "hot spring".

Region Names

Ádelon (/AH-deh-lon/, ἀδήλον) between the Dýosynē peaks in the west and the Skiuöldēn Rim along the Bay of Laongóōn north of the Ádelonian Ridge. A region settled heavily by Aldsegians first and later by Aedelanders. A transliteration of Aedeland but translated as "land of foreigners" due to its homophonic similarity to adēlos (/ah-DAY-lohs/), meaning hidden, mysterious, unknown.

Haemonia (/HEH-moh-nee-ah/), Ἁιμωνία) the remote upper highlands of the Thalassían valley at the base of the eastern face of the central Kalderikón ridge. Known for sheep and goat herding. Uncertain origin. May be from haîma, meaning blood, or unlikely from Tahani, amun, meaning hidden one, due to the remoteness of the region.

Kaliphos (/KAL-ee-fos/, Κάλυφος) a narrow coastal area spanning the length of the western Kalderikón ridge. From kallos, meaning beautiful.

Lakedaimōn (/Lah-keh-DAY-mon/, Λακεδαίμων) the southern Thalassían valley. From the Lakonē, a major city of the region, and daimōn, meaning divider or allotter.

Pelá (/PEH-lah/, Πέλα) the eastern coastal region from the south eastern base of the Skiuöldēs Peninsula to the Minórrhē river. Translates to "coast". Related to the endonymic Pelasgoí, the indigenous Achilleionians also called Eteoachílleioi, meaning true-Achilleionians.

Pelaspharion (/Pel-as-FAR-ee-on/, Πελασφάριον) the lowland plain of the southern Thalassían valley. Known for producing high quality beef. Translates to "plain of the Pelasgoí".

Pelanēthra (/peh-lah-NEE-thrah/, Πελανηθρα) the southern lowlands including the Zouába peninsula between Mount Aetheríus and the dormant Erosīrāx volcano. From Pelasgoí and nēthros, meaning shore.

Zóvmāros (/ZO-vma-ros/, Ζώυμαρος) the island group at the eastern mouth of the Achil Sound. Transliterated from Parnethian Tzovmar from Tahani zawāwiyy, possibly an indigenous tribal name, and mâr, meaning serpent or snake.

Zōphkēs (/ZOH-f-kees/, Ζώφκης) the northernmost island of the Achilleion archipelago. A major center of indigenous cultic worship. From zóphos, meaning darkness or west, and kístē, meaning burial.

Geographical Names

Achilón (/ah-kee-LOHN/, Ἀχιλών) the river bisecting the northern half of Achilleion. Its headwaters are at the base of the easter face of the northern Kalderikón and the southern face of the Ádelonian Ridge. It flows south through the Thalassían valley to meet the Ouroosmós where it turns east to the Tashgur Channel. A poetic variation of Achilleion.

Achilleion (/ah-KHIH-lee-oh/, Ἀχίλλειον) the main island of the Achilleionian island archipelago. Translates to "place of the people's grief". From áchos, meaning pain or despair, and laós meaning people or nation.

Aêrionos Pýrgos (/eye-EE-ree-on POOR-gos/, Αἰήριον Πύργος) the pinnacle of the eastern Ádelonian Ridge on the Skiuöldēs peninsula. Translates to "tower of Aêrion". From from Aêrion, the Achilleionian Vind, and púrgos, meaning tower.

Ádelonian (/ah-deh-LOH-nee-an/, ἀδήλον) the east-west range along the northern coast of Achilleion called the Madares, or the bald range. Named for the Ádelon region.

Aetheríus (/eye-THEH-ree-us/, Αἰθέριος) a peak at the southern terminus of the Kalderikón. From aithḗr, meaning heaven or upper air.

Akrōtḗrion (ak-ró-te-ree-on, ἀκρωτήριον) the peninsula at the eastern terminus of the Ádelonian Ridge. From akros, meaning a promontory, cape, or a high point of land.

Ávavórrax (/ah-vah-VOR-raks/, Ἀβαβόρραξ) a shield volcano in south eastern Achilleion. One of the Tetrakýklos. Named for the dragon that inhabits the volcano according to Achilleionian folklore. From O.Ani. aveō, meaning to desire.

Arakênos (/ah-rah-KAY-nos/, Ἀρακήνος) the second longest river in Achilleion. Flowing east from the eastern face of the central Kalderikón and the northern slope of the Ávavórrax to the Tashgur Channel. Of uncertain origin.

Aulítheón (/ow-LEE-theh-on/, Αὐλιθεῖον) a scenic valley created by the Arakênos. Translates to "courtyard of God". From aulḗ, meaning courtyard or garden, and theîon, meaning divine.

Laongóōn (/lah-ohn-GOH-ohn/, Λαονγόων) a large bay in northern Achilleion. Fr om lāós, meaning people, and góos, meaning wailing or lamentation.

Mastósiskos Monikadnós (/mah-stoh-SIS-kos moh-nee-KAD-nos/, Μαστοσίσκος Μονικάδνος) a coastal mountain range in Kaliphos separating coastal Auérsa from the Phéranadnós valley. Translates to "the little breasts of Ex. Monika".

Minórrhē (/mee-NOR-reh/, Μινόρρη) river in southern Achilleion flowing almost directly south to the Tashgur Channel from headwaters in the southern Kalderikón and western Ávavórrax From minū́romai, meaning sweet singing or lamentation.

Myriādeia (/Mee-ree-AH-thee-ah/, Μυριάδεια) a natural harbor in southwest Achilleion. Translates to the "Harbor of Myriads".

Pálasai (/PAH-lah-sigh/, Πάλασαι) one of the Dýosynē, twin peaks of the northern Kalderikón. Also called the whore. From palaiós, meaning worn or damaged.

Phéranadnós (/feh-rah-NAHD-nos/, Φερανάδνος) a heavily populated valley of inland Auérsa. The valley of Ex. Ferdinand.

Sinean (/SEE-neh-an/, Σινέαν) the sea surrounding the islands of Achilleion. From sī́nomai, meaning to harm or hurt. Likely from an older Proto-Anarian root meaning to slip away or disappear. Speculated to be in reference to the cataclysmic eruption that created the Achilleionian caldera.

Sophronía (/soh-FROH-nee-ah/, Σωφρονία) one of the Dýosynē, twin peaks of the northern Kalderikón. Also called the vigin. From sōphrosúnē, meaning moderation in sensual desires.

Tashgur (/TASS-goor/, Τάσγυρ) the channel separating Achilleion from Anaria-Minor. Likely from Tahani taş (طَاسَة), meaning stone and kür, meaning bright.
