The Ekhijal Sea is part of the North Settant Sea, located between the Ekhixal Islands and the Sarano coast of the eastern Anarian Major subcontinent.
Geography
The Ekhijal Sea is bordered by the Anarian Major subcontinent to the north, west, and south, and by the Ekhixal Islands to the east. It reaches a maximum depth of 1,327 meters. The sea is situated near the junction of the Anarian and Settant tectonic plates. The Southern Anarian Fracture, a split in the Anarian abduction plate, runs along the northern and western edges of the Ekhijal Sea. This tectonic activity has led to the formation of subsurface mountain chains and active volcanoes in the region.
Extent
The limits of the Ekhijal Sea are defined as follows:
- North: A line from the northernmost Ekhixal Island to the tip of the Vaeixelian peninsula.
- South: A line from the southern Ekhixal Island to the adjacent island and the Ashten peninsula.
Exits
There are two main exits from the Ekhijal Sea:
- North: The Nopergha Straits.
- South: The Southern Ekhixal Passages.
Basins
The Ekhijal Sea is divided into two basins by an undersea ridge known as the Turquoise Bridge, named for the color of the shallower waters in this area of the sea. In some places, these seamounts rise to within a few meters of the surface.
Name
The name "Ekhijal Sea" comes from Atregonan mythology.
