In his anger, Arnsteinn had refused to recognize Guðfrøðr, his grandson, and had instead shown favor to the sons of his daughter Thérèse. Her eldest son, Danpr, called the surtr, “black”, was for several years regarded as the likely heir until he was exiled to Elysion for attempted murder. His younger brother Lukáš was a favorite of Arnsteinn though widely recognized as unfit for leadership and well under the influence of his brother and mother. Upon Arnsteinn's death rumors spread that Danpr would return to Ålesund to take the leadership. Guðfrøðr was returned in secret from Maleficarion and quickly installed as Fører. Agents of the Skyggejæger captured Danpr as he disembarked and he was ultimately executed for violating the terms of his exile.
